My name is Charlie Kiti William, named after my father, I was born on the 20th of May 1981 on the island of Tanna, Vanuatu, in the South Pacific. I live in Lautapunga Village with my wife Marie and our four children. I am actually a Teacher, but in order to support my family and boost the local community, I have dedicated myself to developing tourism in the area. To do so, I have launched Tanna Volcano Transfers and Tours.
This is truly a community project with widespread benefits.
Some of the challenges that we face and are trying to overcome are:
- Our population growth is very high. We are finding it hard to find enough farming land to support our ever increasing numbers
- The soil is not as fertile as it used to be as we aren’t able to rotate our crops from area to area in order to allow the soil time to regenerate
- Poor water quality
Our hope is that through the development of tourism, we will be able to generate enough funds to develop local education programmes. It is our belief that our best solution to solving the issues that we face is through widespread, quality education.
Me, my family and my community really appreciate your help and support. We would love to host you and show you around our beautiful island.
